It’s Competition Time!!!

We have just launched a new ‘Business Golf League’ in conjunction with the Monmouthshire Beacon.  The championships is open to anyone who is not already an existing member of Monmouth Golf Club, with the requirements that players have their own clubs and have playing experience.  The competition will be a league competition between teams of two from employers in Monmouth and the surrounding areas.  Each team will play all the other teams in the league once in a four ball better ball stableford round robin.  Businesses and individuals are being sought to take part in the championship – the two winners will secure full adult membership for 2018 – worth around £1200.00.

For more information, or to enter a team please contact Ceri Hiscox at the club or e-mail sec@monmouthgolfclub.co.uk

Forthcoming Social Events

10th June – Golf Club horse race evening. Repeat of last year’s very enjoyable event to be organised by Robbie Williams, who will no doubt be issuing more information soon.

General Information.

A Seniors Mixed Open is scheduled for 23rd September.  Previously arranged by the Ladies Section, Marion Workman has asked us for assistance from either a Senior or Senior and wife or partner, who play mixed social golf, to arrange the event this year.

The Ladies Section needs help on this event and it is hoped that someone from the men’s section will respond by agreeing to arrange this important Club income opportunity.

The Ladies Section will be holding a Tombola event on 26/4 and have put out a request to us for donations of modest prizes such as bottles, golf balls etc.

The Ladies will reciprocate by assisting on our open days booking in /selling raffle tickets etc.

February saw the introduction of temporary handicap reductions, meant as a bit of fun and purely intended for social golf.

In summary, Seniors players announced as winning a Tuesday social golf competition will receive a temporary 2 shot reduction in their handicap and the runner up 1 shot reduction, for the duration of that calendar month.

Finally, it would be good for Senior Section members to contribute to future news bulletins, perhaps under the heading of a “have your say” section.

Your feedback and comment would be appreciated.

Meanwhile, happy and successful golf in March.

Captains Day 2016

Captains Day was held on Sunday 3rd July this year, and what a great turnout it was with nearly 100 members coming along to enjoy the day!!  Jennie and I were so pleased.

Jennie and the Ladies did us proud by providing a fantastic lunch.  I’d like to thank all the people that helped me on the course – Keith Spary who ran the ‘Chipping Competition’, Malcolm ‘Chalky’ Robertshaw for the ‘Target Golf’ on the 13th, Liz Edwards for organising the Pimms Tent, Marion Workman for organising the Prize Table, David Jones & Mel Hiscox for arranging the cards and processing the results and Andras Weinhardt for making his special goulash again – you all helped to make this such a special day for Jennie and myself.

Finally I’d like to thank the Greens Staff – Lee Williams, Matt Auld and John Syms for the work that they put in preparing the course – I’m sure you will agree with me that it is in fantastic condition!
